The Red Cross belongs to the American people. You fund it, you donate your blood, you prepare for and respond to disasters, you take and instruct first aid classes. You make the Red Cross what it is today, and you hold the keys to its future. Linda Mathes, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region, thanks IN THE BAG for their support.
Because being prepared can make your family and community safer and sometimes minimize injury and destruction, we provided disaster education presentations to over 29,000 individuals in the community to educate, equip and empower them to prevent and prepare for disasters or other life-threatening emergencies.
From first aid, CPR and AED training to swimming and lifeguarding, Red Cross programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. We taught more than 72,000 people life saving skills in classes throughout the region. The classes we offer to businesses, schools and individuals have prepared people to save lives throughout the region.
The American Red Cross provides communication between men and women in the military stationed away from home and their families. This year, we supported over 1,800 emergency communication cases for military personnel/families.
The international tracing program helps local families find relatives with whom they have lost contact because of a natural disaster, war or internal conflict.
About 100,000 people in the region were touched by Red Cross community services during the past year.
